Community Resources and Amenities

• Founded in 1855, the Dalton Free Public Library operates from the Town Hall as well as an expanded space in the town's former opera house.
  
  
• Library programs dedicated to kids and teens include STEAM activities, a LEGO club, wildlife encounters, and art classes.
  
  
• Library patrons can borrow passes to such area attractions as the Clark Art Institute, Mass MOCA, and the Norman Rockwell Museum.

• Dalton is the largest community by population in the Central Berkshire Regional School District. The district also serves Becket, Hinsale, Peru, Washington, Windsor, and the town of Cummington in Hampshire County, MA. The district has three elementary schools, one middle school, and one high school.
  
  
• Craneville Elementary School, Nessacus Middle School, and Waconah Regional High School are located in Dalton.

• Open May through October, the Crane Museum of Papermaking offers tours that trace the production of currency paper starting in 1775 up through current anti-counterfeiting technologies.
  
  
• One of the oldest corporate museums in the United States, the museum expanded in 2001 as part of Crane's bicentennial celebration, and again in 2014 to add space for hands-on papermaking and paper arts.

Health Care Resources

• Berkshire Health Systems serves as the major health care provider in the region.
  
  
• A 307-bed hospital located in Pittsfield, Berkshire Medical Center is BHS's flagship hospital. BMC has won honors from the American Heart Association, American College of Surgeons Commission on Cancer, and the American College of Radiology for its high level of patient care and services.

• Pittsfield is the headquarters for the Berkshire Visiting Nurse Association, which provides in-home medical services to residents throughout Berkshire County.

Recreation and Culture

• Waconah Falls State Park in Dalton is the site of one of the prettiest waterfalls in Massachusetts.
  
  
• A half-mile trail offers views of the falls. The 40-foot cascade draws the most visitors during the spring runoff.

• This semi-private club offers 18 holes of championship golf and welcomes public players.
  
  
• The Wayne Stiles-designed course was ranked fourth by GolfAdvisor on the Top 25 Courses in New England.

• Dalton residents are 15 minutes away from Arrowhead, the homestead where Herman Melville wrote Moby-Dick.
  
  
• Guided hours tours are available seasonally. The grounds and nature trails are open year-round.

Waconah Falls State Park (left) in Dalton is the site of one of the prettiest waterfalls in Massachusetts. Crane and Company was founded in Dalton in 1801. The Crane Museum of Papermaking (right) is housed on the former grounds of original paper mill.
